How to Create a Social Media Strategy

Creating a social media strategy is not difficult, but it takes some time.
And, yes, having a strategy is necessary when using any social media — that is, if you want to reach people you don’t already know.
Here are 3 steps to creating a strategy that will generate an audience on your choice social media:
- Research- Find individuals, businesses, and organizations in-line with your purpose. Connect with them (and don’t worry if they don’t reciprocate immediately). Observe how they interact with others and the kinds of information they dispense.
- Create an angle- Creativity is everything. Since you will enter into community with people who are like you, decide how you can stand out among them.**My favorite example is @RegectRiter (think, “Rejected Writer”) on Twitter. His bio reads “I blog because I get rejected. Know the feeling?” For his complimentary blog, he writes fictional rejection letters he imagines receiving as a playwright.
- Set goals- How many people do you want to reach? By when? Social media is unpredictable, setting goals allows you to measure progress and know the appropriate time to restrategize or move onto the next step.
